Halting at Ooty and Kanyakumari during your South India Tour

With as many as 8 UNESCO world heritage sites along with some of the best flora and fauna at display, the state of Tamilnadu combines adventure with tranquil. There aren’t many tours where the halts are as exciting as the journey. A tour of the south Indian state of Tamilnadu is one journey where halts at magnificent places will prepare you for the astonishments that remain in your expedition ahead.

Even during ancient times, travelers had an opinion that Tamilnadu is a place where people meet life. While you halt at places like Kanyakumari Tourism and Ooty, you might be tempted to extend your visit, just to be at peace with yourself.

When it comes to Ooty, it is often said that the place is more beautiful than whatever you have heard earlier. From the magnificently flowing green tea estates to the picturesque Lamb's Rock viewpoint, Ooty is the place to be away from the madness of crowded Indian cities. Visiting the famed Botanical Garden is one squeeze you need to make during your stay in this heavenly hill station. Other places of attraction in Ooty Tours include Dolphin's Nose, Wax World, Tribal Museum, Fernhills Palace and Rose Gardens along with the famous romantic evening boat rides on the calm Ooty Lake.

From one pictorial place to another: Often called as Cape Comorin, Kanyakumari forms the end of Indian peninsula, which also forms a part of many ancient Indian fables. Visiting Gandhi Memorial along with famous Vivekenanda Rock Memorial falls in the ‘things to do list’ while you are here. Other attractions here include Kanyakumari Temple, Vattakottai Fort and Mathur Aqueduct.

All in all, your trip of South India would remain incomplete if you don’t visit glorious local temples like Rockfort temple, Meenakshi Temple, Srirangam temple etc.

Celebrating Spirituality with Tamilnadu festivals like Pongal and Karthikai Deepam

A south India tour is like experiencing life from the lens of spirituality with temples at every nook and corner. Temples of south India not only stand for the civilization’s faith, but form an essence of rich Dravidian culture, arts and heritage. Poets have often rhymed that a city comes to life during carnivals and festivals. Like the carnival of Goa, Pongal is the pride of Tamilnadu.

The Pongal Festival
When Makar Sankrant is celebrated with vigor all over north India, its Pongal time for Tamil folks not only in Tamilnadu but for the Tamil Diaspora located all over the world. The Pongal festival in local language means - boiling over. This harvest festival is celebrated by boiling milk in a clay pot to symbolize abundance of everything in a household. In fact, Pongal is a way to thank the Sun God and the hardworking livestock. Celebrated with energy, Pongal colors the state of Tamilnadu by bringing the people close to nature and each other as well.

Next in line is the Karthigai Deepam festival. It is the festival of lights celebrated all across Tamilnadu by Hindu folks. The auspicious festival is celebrated every year in the Karthikai month. Karthikai month (Hindu calendar) falls mostly in November or at times in December. If you manage to be in Tamilnadu during the last phase of the year, it is recommended to visit temples which are specially decorated with a plethora of lights, ranging from oil lamps (diyas) to bright electronic lighting display.

All in all, like other states of India, Tamilnadu festivals provide a reason for colors to meet lighting. Actually, folks from other religions also come together to strengthen India’s ‘unity in diversity’ culture.
